WildStory QuickTip: Give People a Reason to Join Your Email List

Your email list is your most important marketing and fundraising tool as a wildlife nonprofit.

People are inundated with noise on the internet these days and social media algorithms make it difficult for your message to reach your people. The one marketing tool that has stood the test of time and still has the biggest ROI, is email marketing.

Your email list is so much more than names. It is a direct way to contact people who have already said yes to hearing from you. To boost visibility, impact, and donor engagement, email is key.

Most people will at least see your emails and, even if they don’t open them, seeing your organization’s name regularly, will put you first of mind when they do have the need for the solution you offer.

Their need may be that they want to be a part of something bigger and what you offer is that they can be a part of your organization’s conservation story.

Use Story to Invite Your Prospects

The key is to invite your prospects to be a part of your organization’s story, so they want to join your email list.

Don’t just say:

  • “Sign up for our newsletter.”

Instead, try something like:

  • “Get stories of wildlife recovery delivered monthly.”

  • “Be the first to hear how your support protects giant pandas.”

Don’t just ask them to “keep in touch” — make it feel like you’re inviting them in to your team, not just another marketing tactic.
